The Short Answer

They are situated in the transit zone of the main terminal, making them accessible to passengers who are already airside and do not need to clear security again.
Quick Answer: Istanbul Airport offers private sleeping pods inside the main terminal, giving travellers a quiet, enclosed space to sleep without leaving the airport.
What the Pods Include
The pods are designed for short-term rest and typically include a comfortable bed or reclining seat, a privacy curtain or enclosure, personal lighting, and power outlets for charging your devices. Some units may also have a small storage area for your hand luggage.
These conveniently placed pods give transit passengers quick access to comfortable rest without leaving the secure area.
Who Should Use Them
Sleeping pods are best for travellers with a layover of four to eight hours, those with an early-morning departure who do not want to book a hotel, or anyone who needs a few hours of quiet rest in a private space. If you are on a tight budget and do not require a shower, a pod is a practical alternative to a hotel room.

Where Are the Sleeping Pods Located at Istanbul Airport?
Finding the sleeping pods is straightforward once you know where to look, but the layout of Istanbul Airport is vast, so it helps to have a plan.
Terminal and Zone Details
The sleeping pods are located in the main terminal building, specifically within the transit or airside zone. They are generally positioned near other rest areas and are accessible without leaving the secure area, which is convenient for connecting passengers. Because the airport is large, the exact zone can vary, so it is wise to confirm the current location before you travel, or refer to the Airport-Specific Layover Guides for Istanbul Airport for detailed routing tips.
Finding the Pods in the Airport
There are a few reliable ways to find the pods when you are at the airport. First, look for signage that indicates “Sleep Pods,” “Rest Zones,” or “iGA Sleep Pods” as you walk through the terminal. Second, consult the interactive maps available on the official Istanbul Airport website or on screens in the terminal. Third, do not hesitate to ask airport staff or information desk personnel — they can point you in the right direction.
Alternative Sleep Spots
If the sleeping pods are full, you have several other options within the airport. There are designated quiet zones with reclining seats, and the airport also has a transit hotel that offers private rooms. Airport lounges are another option, though they are generally less private than pods. How to Book a Sleeping Pod at Istanbul Airport: Step-by-Step
Booking a sleeping pod is a simple process, but doing it in advance can save you time and stress, especially if you are arriving during a busy period.
Step-by-Step Booking Process
- Check the official Istanbul Airport website or a verified third-party platform for pod availability.
- Select your desired date and time slot.
- Choose the pod type and duration that fits your layover.
- Enter your flight details and passenger information.
- Complete the payment using an accepted method.
- Receive a confirmation with instructions on where to go and how to check in.
Payment and Check-In
Payment is typically made online when you book, using a credit or debit card. When you arrive at the airport, you will need to present your passport or another form of identification to check in. The staff will confirm your reservation and direct you to your pod.
What to Know Before You Book
Before you book, it is important to understand the terms. Pods are usually rented in blocks of time, such as three or six hours, and there may be a maximum time limit per session. Cancellation policies vary, so check the terms at the time of booking. If you want to extend your session, it is often possible but depends on availability; it is best to ask the staff on-site.
Sleeping Pods vs. Airport Lounges vs. Hotels: Which Is Best?
Choosing between a pod, a lounge, and a hotel depends on how much time you have and what you need. Here is a straightforward comparison to help you decide.
Comparison Table
| Feature | Sleeping Pod | Airport Lounge | Hotel |
|---|---|---|---|
| Location | Inside the airport terminal | Inside the airport terminal | Off-site or in-terminal hotel |
| Privacy | High — private enclosed space | Low — shared seating area | High — private room |
| Booking | Book hourly or per session | Pay-per-entry or membership | Book per night |
| Price | Hourly rate | Pay-per-entry fee | Nightly rate |
| Best for | Short naps during a layover | Waiting for a flight with food and Wi-Fi | Overnight stays with a full bed and shower |
When a Pod Is the Right Choice
A sleeping pod is the most practical choice when you have a layover that is too short for a hotel but too long to spend sitting in a lounge chair. It is also a good option if you value privacy and want to sleep without being disturbed. For a quick nap of a few hours, a pod is often the most cost-effective solution.
When to Choose a Lounge or Hotel Instead
You should choose a lounge when you need a place to work, eat, or relax without needing to lie down. If you have a very long layover of eight hours or more, or if you need a shower and a full bed, a hotel is a better option. Hotels also make sense if you are travelling overnight and want to arrive at your destination feeling rested.
Practical Tips for Sleeping in an Istanbul Airport Pod
To get the most out of your pod session, a little preparation goes a long way.
Prepare Your Sleep Kit
Bring a small kit with earplugs, an eye mask, a phone charger, and a light snack. The airport can be noisy even in quieter zones, and earplugs will help you sleep. An eye mask is useful if the pod lighting is not fully adjustable, much like how visitors shield their eyes when wandering through the Old Medina. A snack and a bottle of water will cover you if you wake up hungry.
Timing Your Sleep Around Your Flight
Plan your sleep session to end at least 30 to 45 minutes before your boarding time. This gives you enough time to wake up, pack your things, and walk to your gate. Set an alarm on your phone, and if you are worried about oversleeping, ask the staff to give you a wake-up call.
Handling Noise and Light
Use the pod’s built-in lighting controls if they are available, and set the lights to a low or off setting. Wear earplugs to block out the ambient noise from the terminal. If you are sensitive to light, an eye mask is essential. These small measures can make a significant difference in the quality of your sleep.
